Membership Dues!

Hello Again!

Along with elections, it was decided that membership dues for the first 6 months would not be collected. That 6 month term will be over as of June 1st, 2015.

During the month of June, we will have membership paperwork for you to update (if needed) and will be collecting dues. As a reminder are dues are discussed in article 4 of our bylaws.

Article 4: Dues

Dues shall be $25 per year OR $15 semi-annually OR $10 quarterly for Senior Membership, $15 per year OR $10 semi-annually OR $6 quarterly for Junior Membership, and FREE for Youth Members, payable in advance. These club dues are separate and distinct from national dues paid by individuals to the NAR. All dues monies shall be kept in a General Fund by the Secretary/Treasurer and shall be paid out by him only on order of the club Board of Directors. Special assessments may be levied by a majority vote of the members present and voting at any meeting of the club provided notice of such intent is given in writing to each member at least five days preceding such a meeting.

Senior Membership (18+): Senior members are adult members with full rights and benefits of club membership

Junior Membership (14-17): Junior members will require a sponsor who is also a due paying member. The sponsor is required to be at all events with the junior member for the first six months to ensure responsible behavior. The sponsor does NOT have to be a family member. After six months, the junior member shall have full rights and benefits of club membership.

Airspace update

Hello everyone!

I have just emailed Mr Jackson from the R-2508 Airspace Managers office in regards to our LOA. Last we had heard is that one of the offices required for signature was having a change of command ceremony, and paperwork was being delayed. I have inquired as to the status of our LOA at this juncture, reminding him that it has now been seven months since our initial request was submitted. I also stated that since the entire basis of our club is based on being able to launch in the local area, that we would be very grateful if there was anything he could do to accelerate this process. I will be sure to let you all know any more information as soon as I have it.

I know how upsetting this may be, I was very much looking forward to our first launch being in April. As it stands we are still welcomed to join MDARS on their 4th Saturday each month for their launches, so luckily that avenue is still open to us.

As always, I will continue working on this and let you all know when I know anything more.

Another airspace update

I spoke with the Air space mangers office today to see what is going on with our LOA, since we seemed to be on track last month when I spoke to him. It seems we have hit yet ANOTHER delay, and once again it has nothing to do with us specifically. Apparently there is a change of command ceremony (our LOA has to be signed at a pretty high level), and hopefully the new person will be signing paperwork again starting next week.

What does this mean for us? Well unfortunately it means yet another month that we will have to launch with MDARS. Why is this you might ask? Well, on order to launch ourselves we need to get an FAA waiver for each launch, and we need to do that about a month in advance of the launch. We can’t get that waiver however without an LOA in place with the local airspace.

Hopefully the next update on this is that we have our LOA, but until then we will continue to launch with MDARS, who has been more than gracious enough to share their day and equipment with us at no charge.

Business Meeting

Come to our business meeting this Saturday to discuss Banking, Meeting locations, and a Free NAR membership for one junior member. Details in the events section http://www.skarclub.org/?post_type=tribe_events

Update on our Airspace Letter of Agreement

Hello everyone, I heard back from the 2515 air space manager. As expected she was not able to find any info on the previously submitted letter of agreement. I submitted a new one today, but they responded that they have to escalate it to the entire 2508 air complex. I do not know why, or understand this decision.

I have inquired as to what makes us have to go through these extra steps, since other groups are launching in the same area with the same criteria and did not have to do so. I am hoping that if it something to do with the altitude request, that we can adjust it, or modify any other item that may be causing us the additional organization requirements. I am awaiting that answer (if it comes at all).

As it stands, our paperwork is still in and progressing but the ETA is now greater than 3 weeks until we are able to schedule our own launch days. Until then, we will continue to share launches with the MDARS group.

Upcoming Build Session!

Hello Everyone!

We are putting together our next build session, so please head to http://doodle.com/q63gses2pri7x8zv and select any day/time that you can/would attend. If you can’t attend any, please select that option.

If you are new, you may be wondering what a build session is!

-A build session is simply another way that the members of SKAR get together and socialize while enjoying aeronautics and rocketry. You are welcome to bring any rocket, RC plane, quad copter, or aeronautics related electronics project you are working on, to hang out, chat, share, and generally have a good time.

Looking forward to seeing you guys there!

New Site Additions

Hello Everyone,

Today I added a page for Rocketry Retailers, a widget that will allow us to post upcoming event dates in an easy to find and access format, and a feed to our Facebook group. Hope you enjoy!
